Rediscovering Greece & Rome

The Fitzwilliam Museum

The Fitzwilliam Museum is the lead partner of the impressive collections of the University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) and Botanic Garden. In 2010 the Greece & Rome gallery undertook a large refurbishment that transformed the museum and university departments. Together with Studio A Associates, we created an authentic layout for the Greek and Roman collectives.

Spatial planning
We created a clear plan which meant people could move around the space with no difficulty and enabled them to increase their focus on the attractions. Mash-design combined minimal text and block colour to solve this problem.

Discreet design
Difficulties can arise when large artefacts are in a room, as it becomes a challenge to create information panels for each attraction. To avoid this problem mash-design implemented a graphic panel solution, which meant that visitors remained informed while viewing the objects.

The Greek sculpted figures in the gallery served as an inspiration to us when finding our solution. To create a fully immersive experience for the visitors our graphic design solution focused around traditional typography.
